Coming in May: Margo Handbag

Lazies, This spring is hectic with travel, our new Girl, Quilt Market, etc. so I don’t expect to keep my regular Monday blog schedule for a while. I’ll post on days when I have something and time permits.

Margo Handbag
And now, let’s meet the ‘Margo Handbag’ (LGD127), our newest design to be released mid May in time for Quilt Market in Minneapolis. These are just some quick shots I took of Margo this weekend. I don’t know if this sample will be on the cover of the pattern or not – I haven’t gotten there yet!

Fabrics shown are from the ‘Modern Mix’ line from Benartex. Scrumptious!

The Front Pockets
Margo’s front, shown in floral, has a line of stitching right down the middle, separating this lined panel into two large pockets. The angular cut outs are the pocket openings and they are generous enough to easily slide your hand in and out while holding your keys or cell phone. Margo is the perfect Girl on the go. The coordinating fabric shown in green make the most of this pocket design.

The Zipper
Now, let’s talk about that zipper! Oh, I love this zipper installation. The zipper sits down inside the top edge of the bag by about one inch. It stands straight out from the lining like a shelf on a wall. The zipper opens end to end, so there is plenty of room to get into and out of the bag. And, yes, it’s easy. Trust me, you’ll be okay.

Inside pockets all around, of course. Did you notice the stripe print
matches up perfectly above and below the zipper.

Here’s a closer look at the zipper. Look at that – clean, simple, elegant. It’s zipper poetry!

The Back
The back of Margo uses the same floral as the front pocket panel, but has no pockets or detail, just a simple line of stitching to match the front.

Size
Margo is 10 1/4″ x 9 1/4″ x 4″ and she fits our size F Bag-E-Bottom purse support. That makes her larger than our Towne Purse, smaller than the Gracie Handbag, and the same dimensions as Claire and Mini Miranda. But with the zip top, she feels like a whole different size. The shoulder straps are generous enough to throw over your shoulder with Margo resting comfortably at your side.

I’ll have more detail and photos in the coming weeks.

Blog Schedule
I’ll be off of my regular blog schedule, so don’t worry if I’m not here with something fabulous every Monday – I’m working on our new Girl and I’ll post when I have updates.

What do you think of Margo? Post a comment below and let me know what you think of our new Girl!

Enjoy!

Margo is perfection in a bag! Looks like she even improves on Claire which I didnt think could happen. Those front pockets are just made for cell phones. Brilliant again Joan!

  8. Linda — March 29, 2010 @ 5:16 pm

  9. Cathy — March 29, 2010 @ 5:27 pm

Looks like a winner to me. Cant wait to see how you do the zipper and how it all works!!

  10. Donna — March 29, 2010 @ 6:20 pm

Oh goodness gracious, Joan, this one is yet another winner! Beautiful colors and I love the design. I’m so excited about the recessed zipper because I know you’ll make it easy on all of us to assemble. I used to be so intimidated with installing zipper (still am a little bit to a degree), but I’ve been practicing over the past couple of months, nothing major, but I cannot wait to purchase this pattern. You are such a tease making us wait until May. Well, may it come quickly!! ;-)

  11. Nancy — March 29, 2010 @ 6:37 pm

Oh i really like this one….. cant wait to see the pattern!

  12. Susan — March 29, 2010 @ 7:53 pm

I’ve been hoping for something just like this … I love all your bags but the ones I make the most for family and friends are those that close, as in zip shut. People are worried about their stuff and I don’t blame ‘em. I make a lot of totes and bags to give to friends to take to Georgia football games. Well, between all the tailgating and all the up and down while watching a game, you can’t take a chance of anything tumbling out. This will solve it … cute as anything, the right size, and now a secure closure. Many thanks, Joan, and thanks for helping me get that beach tote ready in time for my daughter’s trip to Tybee Island. Your personal help and advice made all the difference.

Keep bein’ lazy and I’ll be right there with ya!!

  13. Joy — March 29, 2010 @ 8:14 pm

What a fresh bag! I have zipper phobia, but may have to get over it with Margo…… and how did you get the stripes to line up like that? Is that part of the zipper trick?

  14. PAM — March 29, 2010 @ 8:55 pm

Joan! You know you’ve really out done yourself with this new bag! Margo is a sweetie and I just cannot wait to get her in my hands! I love the front design and oh gosh wow! a zipper!!!! set into the lining of the bag! Great! love her!

    big LAZY hugz

  16. Anne R — March 29, 2010 @ 9:50 pm

  22. margot — March 30, 2010 @ 8:27 am

Love this bag and am going to have to have the pattern. The only problem is you have mis-spelled the name (but that’s okay. I’m used to it). It’s M – a – r – g – o – t. :)

  23. vickie — March 30, 2010 @ 10:33 am

i like that type of zipper application, have used a similar insertion for several years. like the drop , if you are a stash shoppers you could use a “what was i thinking” fabric buy for the lining. pocket looks great. i really like your patterns, they are easy to read and use. you write directions well.

  24. Jeanne Green — March 30, 2010 @ 11:22 am
