Giveaway: Runaround Bag Pattern and Dreamy Fusible Fleece
Lazies, The Runaround Bag (LGD111) is one of our most-loved and easiest bags. Two fat quarters, a smidge of fleece, a zipper and you’re done before you know it. Well, it’s time to give this baby a new look, so let me introduce you to the new cover for the Runaround Bag.
This citron yellow, black, white and gray color combination gets me every time.
These gorgeous and fun fabrics are by Michael Miller.
Runaround Bag Features
What’s so great about the Runaround Bag? It’s quick, easy and all function. It’s a wonderful little bag, about the size of your outstretched hand (7″ x 9″), perfect to sling over your shoulder or wear cross-body when you need to travel light.

A simple pocket completes the back.
Dreamy Fusible Fleece
I used our Dreamy Fusible Fleece in these bags. The Runaround was written for use with sew-in fleece or batting. It’s easy enough to substitute fusible fleece in Step 4 of the pattern. Simply layer the lining fabric, fleece and back fabric piece together as described in Assembly, then press with a hot steam iron to fuse the fleece in place. Dreamy is fusible on one side only. In this project, it doesn’t matter if it is fused to the lining or the backing fabric. As when working with any fusible, be careful around the edges so as not to get fusible on the sole plate of your iron, or ironing board and using an applique pressing sheet for a pressing cloth is a good idea, too.

Dreamy’s Loft/Thickness
For years I had been working with and recommending Pellon’s fusible fleece #987F for my bag designs, so let me compare the two. Compared to Pellon, our Dreamy Fusible Fleece is a little thicker, has a more smooth surface and is comparable in the structure it brings to your project. Dreamy has a lighter layer of adhesive so fabric isn’t over-fused, creating cellulite or dimpling.

About the Fusible
Dreamy Fusible Fleece has a light layer of adhesive on one side. Dreamy comes 45″ wide, folded then rolled on the bolt. The fusible is on the folded to the inside. This is an easy trick to remember where the fusible is – folding it to the inside protects the adhesive layer. I mention all of this because it truly is a light layer and once you get your Dreamy out and you’re working with it, you might have some trouble knowing which side has the adhesive. The adhesive side is slightly rougher to the touch and every so slightly shinier. When in doubt, cut a small scrap, place it between two larger pieces of fabric and press – which ever side fuses to the fleece is the fusible side. If needed, make a mark or a note on your fleece to help keep track of the fusible side.
Zipper Nirvana
The way the zipper goes in on the Runaround is outstanding and outstandingly simple. Put your zipper fears aside and give it a try. I can highly recommend the fabulous zips from Atkinson Designs for this project. They’re longer than you need, but the zip gets cut down anyway, so indulge in Atkinson’s wonderful color assortment and have some fun.

What a great little bag! So handy for when you dash out with just keys and credit card to do the groceries! It reminds me of one I had way way back in my twenties, although this one looks far more professional in style, with it’s padding and back pocket.

Very cute bag – I’d love to try it out! Fusible Fleece sounds interesting, but I’m such a fan of free motion quilting lately, that I don’t mind using that technique instead. I agree that grey and yellow are gorgeous. I have your Miranda bag in blue and yellow, and I may need to update it to more neutral colours (and darker!) so that it stands out a bit less.

I have made this bag probably 30 times now in various color combinations — usually team colors as this makes a fabulous gameday bag. Put in over your neck and wear it cross-body and you won’t lose it as you are up and down, clapping, cheering, running to the snackbar. Just the right size for a wallet, lipstick, keys, camera — the essentials!

This is the greatest bag ever. I have made lots for myself and given them for gifts.
I HAVE made one in almost every color. It’s the only bag that I ever use. Carrying a large bag over one shoulder is not an option – really makes for a very sore shoulder. And believe me, you can get quite a bit in this bag!

Like others I’ve probably made this bag a dozen times. It’s a great little bag for fat quarters and sturdy zippers. It is also big enough to hold my sunglasses which I appreciate. I’ve thought of using Soft and Stable to give it a little more “tooth”, but will also want to try your new fusible fleece. Hope it will be carried in my local quilt shop that carries your patterns.

Choosing a zipper is a design activity? I heart that concept. Saturday at the fabric store I fussed over a zipper decision for ten minutes – who knew this wasn’t just a mundane activity? Looks like the Runaround would make a good passport/travel doc carrier. Btw I’m stalking your new fusibles in Canada.

I haven’t found a shop that carries all the new fleece products. I was in Reno and didn’t find it. I don’t know if the small shops in the area where I live will carry it but I will keep looking.

Love the Runaround Bag! The first one I made only took me about 2 hours start to finish. It’s a great pattern. My daughter also made one, took her a little longer, but it was her first project that wasn’t a 9 patch small quilt top.
I love this bag. I have been making the really small yoyo’s and putting them above the zipper, and putting the slightly bigger yoyo on different bags, below the zipper. It’s fun embellishing them. They make great gifts.

I’ve been using PELLON 987 for all my bags and the inconsistency of it drives me nuts. I never know if the bolt is going to be thick or thin. I’m welcoming your new products with open arems.
I saw a Runaround Bag this last weekend at an Avocado Festival in California. I commented on it and she told me it was the Runaround. Made me want to go right home and sew. I use this style of ‘purse’ as a wallet! When I need a larger purse I just throw it in the larger bag… most of the time, though, it’s all I need for running errands!
