Columbus in June: A Lazy Guide to a Bevy of Crafting Shows and Events
Posted By Joan Hawley On May 29, 2007 @ 9:46 am In Quilting | No Comments
Lazies, Columbus, OH, in the early part of June will see four fabulous crafting shows hit town. Tons of people (including a number of my fiber friends) are here for one or more of these shows. So, at the suggestion of Wheat Carr , may I humbly offer this quick resource guide.
Quilt Surface Design Symposium
4 sessions beginning June 9 ending June 22
TNNA-The National Needlework Association
Wholesale to the Trade
Market open to the Public
National Quilting Association
Market Open to the public
Not to be missed in my humble opinion:
The Columbus Arts Festival (concurrent with three of the shows above)
The 2007 Columbus Arts Festival presented by Chase
June 7 – 10, Downtown Riverfront
Thursday – Saturday 11:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Sunday 11:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
From the GCAC website:
Each year, Sunshine Artist magazine recognizes the Columbus Arts Festival as a one of the premier festivals in the country, and American Style magazine in 2007 rated the Columbus Arts Festival as an essential festival to attend.
If the weather is nice, plan on walking over to the Arts Festival for dinner from the food booths and entertainment all around.

Across the street from the Convention Center. The kind of place you’d expect to see a lot of regulars. Great food at good prices. Casual.
Martini’s Italian Bistro
445 N High St
Select the Columbus/Short North location

Oh my goodness, I shamelessly say this is a personal favorite. Start with the Martini Salad – you can’t be disappointed. The Lasagna is enormous and mouth watering. The chicken dishes are robust yet delicate. The Chicken Saltimbocca – a house specialty indeed. The filet – quite good. Call for reservations. Best for groups of 4 or less. Crowded, loud, definitely worth it. Dress is nice casual.
37 Vine St
No website that I can find.
Some of the best sushi in town. Just a couple of steps off of High Street across from the Convention Center. Entrance is unassuming. Small interior, great staff, everything I tried was wonderful.
Buca Di Beppo
343 N Front St

Nationwide chain (Italian cuisine) of big portions and big atmosphere. Order two entrees per three people. A hop, skip and a jump from the Convention Center. Make reservations, great for large crowds.
Morton’s the Steakhouse
280 N High St, Ste 100
Online reservations – very convenient option. Pricey and well worth it.
Japanese Steak House
479 N High St
No website or comments, but it’s right there on the same block with Martini’s and Barley’s.
Gibby’s Arena District

Have not been there. Comes highly recommended. Also offers box lunch delivery to limited area including Convention Center

The ‘Arena District’ is nearby, offering bars and restaurants as well.
Have a car and want to get out of downtown? Find I-71 North and head to the Polaris exit just north of the 1-270 outer beltway (15 minutes north at best). Polaris Fashion Mall is the largest shopping mall in Ohio. The entire Polaris area offers additional malls and expected surrounding retail, entertainment and restaurants. Mall offers valet parking, Molly Woo’s Chinese restaurant (my personal favorite) and Lindey’s American bistro. Head for the main mall entrance between Saks and Von Maur for both restaurants.
