Free Pattern For Children’s Hospital Gown Now Available
Posted By Joan Hawley On April 14, 2008 @ 6:00 am In Charitable Sewing,Hospital Gown Pattern | 11 Comments
Lazies, I now offer a free pattern for a children’s hospital gown at our website. The pattern is a PDF file that you can print at home. Simply tape the printed pages together to use.
A free pattern for an adult sized gown has been available on my website for three years and is downloaded an average of 1,500 times a month. Wow! After that pattern became available, we started receiving requests for a children’s sized hospital gown pattern, so that is finally available as a free pattern, too.
Send Me A Picture
Lazies, I am sorry to say that I do not have a picture of a finished gown to show you. If you have a picture of either size gown to share with the Lazies, please send it and I’ll post it.
About The Design
The hospital gown design is pretty basic fare with a V-neck in the front and overlapping panels with ties in the back. It has conveniences such as a chest pocket with a hidden opening to allow for chest monitoring cords. And an easy-open access (Velcro and button closure) at the shoulder seams.
What To Do With The Pattern
Make a gown for a friend or loved one for hospital stays, or treatment visits. Lazies have written in to tell me how they are modifying the patterns. Turn the design around to make a robe and/or shorten it for a bed jacket. Lengthen the sleeves if desired.
Also consider making a coordinating comfort or convenience item such as a scarf or shawl, bed pillow, pillow case or tote bag. You could make a robe or gown for your next ma’am-oh-gram (I just don’t like the word mammogram). Girls, take care of yourselves and get your check-ups and screenings.

Where It All Started
A few years ago, my friend Rita Fishel, owner of Creations SewClever Quilt Shop [2] in Chillicothe, OH, designed the adult sized pattern for her friend Susie. You can read more about Susie here [1]. Over the years, Rita and I have received heart warming and heart wrenching emails from Lazies who have found and used the hospital gown patterns. We both want to thank you for taking the time to write and we hope you’ll continue to do so.
Final Tip
Lazy Girl Jeanette recently wrote to me with this suggestion. After printing the pattern and taping the pages together, trace the pattern onto non-fusible lightweight interfacing. Make sure to transfer all the notes and directions, too. Interfacing makes great pattern pieces. They hold-up well, you can easily pin and see through them, and they fold nicely for safe keeping. Thanks Jeanette!
I truly hope that you never need these hospital gown patterns. But if you do, they will be here.
